Paradise Valley Jazz Party 2009

We introduced our limited edition giclee "Fabulissimo" at the Paradise Valley Jazz Party in Scottsdale, AZ.

Al Grey, the late trombonist, who passed away in 2000 was a familiar face at this annual event now in its 32nd year. Held May 2nd and 3rd at The Scottsdale Hilton Resort, we enjoyed performances by a stellar roster of jazz greats including, Dick Hyman, Jon Burr, Houston Person, Sam Most, Scotty Barnhart, Carl Saunders, John Heard, Mike Kocour, Bruce Foreman, Sarrah Morrow, Joe LaBarbera, John Cocuzzi, Dom Moio, Butch Miles, Lucas Pino, Ionnis Goudelis, Tamir Hedelman, Martin Wind, Dwight Kilian, and the guest of honor this year was Dave Frishberg. I sure hope I didn't leave anyone out.

We had a great time! The music was fabulous, and what a pleasure it was to hear the reminiscing about Al Grey through his widow, Rosalie Soladar and from his fellow musicians and fans alike.

Al, your spirit and your music lives on!

"FABULISSIMO"

re.collection art inc. is proud to introduce “Fabulissimo” a tribute to the late, great trombonist Al Grey. This mixed media artwork created by artist Dina Petruzzi is first in a jazz series from re.collection art inc. “While listening to Al’s music, I could feel the long notes, I sought to express that in the strokes of color”, says Petruzzi. “I’m hoping that more people will rediscover more greats such as Al.”

Inspired by Al’s widow, Rosalie Soladar and her amazing collection of memorabilia, “Fabulissimo” is meant to be an instrument of sorts, too. Its purpose is to pay tribute to one of America’s great musicians whose life was dedicated not only to playing trombone, but to teaching music as well. Grey created a jazz summer camp in his hometown of Pottstown, Pa., where he recruited other jazz greats to help him teach swing to high school students. The tradition of inspiring young musicians lives on, as a portion of the proceeds from the sale of “Fabulissimo” will be donated to The Al Grey/Rosalie Soladar Memorial Scholarship Fund.
